Crispy edges, fudgy middle and a rich chocolate flavor is what these brownies are all about, and they disappear in no time.
I’m the kind of person that loves a good fudgy brownie but tend to lean towards the edge pieces as they are the ones with a good crispy top. So yes, I’m guilty of eating all the edge pieces and leaving the middles. Box brownies are fine don’t get me wrong, but nothing compares to a good, homemade, fudgy brownie from scratch.
These brownies call for you basic pantry staples, and it’s not difficult at all to make. They’re glossy, fudgy, and filled with that rich chocolate flavor. Honestly, they’re perfection, and don’t last long in the household.
Tips for getting that perfect, gooey brownie
- Watch ’em like a hawk and don’t overbake them. I know it would be easy to just set the timer and forget about them until it dings, but you’ll want to watch these as oven times can vary. So, if you do set a timer, set it for a few minutes less than it says, that way you’re not overbaking, because no one likes a dry brownie.
- Cream butter and sugar for at least 3 minutes to ensure you have that smooth creamy finish, and you won’t end up with grainy brownies. The reason for creaming in baking is to help dissolve those sugar crystals and creates little pockets of airy goodness.
- While it may not seem like too big of a deal, don’t overmix your flour. Overmixing when making baked goods such as brownies creates more gluten, which can ultimately leave you with a tougher brownie.
- Chocolate chips or chunks: You can opt for semi-sweet chocolate chips and fold those in OR you can grab a delicious bar of Ghirardelli or other favorite bar of yours and cut it up into chunks to add to your batter. You could also do dark, or even white chocolate.
Variations
You can always add in peanut butter chips or cups as well, let that goodness seep into the chocolate.
Like caramel? Swirl some into the top of that batter once poured into the pan, bake it like normal, and then top with a little caramel after slightly cooled.
Nut person? Go ahead and throw in a 1/2 cups of your favorite nuts into the mix, or just sprinkle them on top for that added little crunch.
